M-F1
The MF-1 is a nice mandolin in this price range. The tone is warmer than the standard maple/spruce combo. The new Ashton Bailey tailpieces is a great upgrade over the standard stamped tailpiece. The finish is a little too thick, but that goes with the territory. These have fairly nice tuners. An ebony fingerboard and bridge are nice additions at this price point. There is no binding. This adds to the minimalist look. Overall, this mandolin gets the thumbs up!
A nice spruce and mahogany mandolin made from all solid tone woods. This will make a great no frills F-Model for the player that is not concerned with a fancy finish.
Additional work performed in the Folkmusician shop:
These steps take up a great deal of time and require the mandolin to be restrung and tested multiple times while the work is being performed.
This is what sets our mandolins apart from those purchased from elsewhere. Even though the mandolin may be the same model, our version will have an improvement in playability and tone. This is often the difference between a virtually unplayable instrument and a mandolin that is a joy to own.
